The child enjoyed the Gerund preposition Dragons series several years ago, and I think she also liked the whole Song of the Lioness series. (I am trying to go along with the family's ideas about what is age-appropriate, but I don't begin to understand them.)

I'm thinking about Wolves of Willoughby Chase, because the violence there is so cartoonish...but maybe it would look real to her? To my eyes, it feels less scary than Tamora Pierce, but who knows?
