I know it's not a prudent search algorithm, especially considering how much time I spend near things that should not be touched. The kettle is approaching the boil, and I'm looking for the little round tin of chamomile-lemon tea (which I used to carry around in my old backpack before it fell apart). After not finding it in a few obvious places, I find myself wandering through the apartment, patting flat surfaces almost at random, not finding it, not finding it.

It's not like looking for my glasses that way. Or even like looking for black tea, which sort of implies the excuse of not being fully alert because one hasn't drunk tea yet. It's just silly. And I didn't even find the chamomile-lemon tea. Not that there's anything wrong with this vanilla stuff that was on the shelf right where it was supposed to be.
