simultaneity

My current audiobook _Jonathan Strange and Mister Norrell.
My current e-book I'm reading is _A Song for Arbonne_.
My current paperback is _The Day of the Scorpion_.
My current hardcover is _Maelstrom_.

I want to read all of them, but I reach for a particular one at a particular time because of external circumstances (like sunlight being too bright for e-book reading, or not wanting to use my hands.) I've reached a point of wishing I had chosen stories that went together better. Or at least stories that didn't clash so badly.

Could this be a desire for structure? Or just complexity?
