fret 2 -- not freezing

After a surprisingly difficult search, I finally found mitten clips. I haven't used them in decades, but if I'm going to be wearing $30 mittens, I think it's about time to start again. Shortly after losing my own splendid handwarming gear, I started noticing how many people left gloves and mittens behind on the T. I reminded 3 people in 1 day (not today - today is too cold to bare a hand for more than a moment) and saw yet another glove without knowing who to remind.
So if you're looking for mitten clips, don't waste your time in children's shops, as I did. When I gave up on them, I went to a sewing supply store, planning to buy clips and elastic, thinking, "how hard can it be to make these things?" I was pleasantly surprised to find complete mitten clips, called "notions," all ready to go.
Unfortunately, I am still without good mittens to clip. I went to EMS to replace my lost mittens, but they were fresh out (thanks to the Patriots game.) I had to settle for gloves, which they say have the same construction, but are not anywhere near as warm. They are also not quite the right size, so my fingers are forced apart, and everything is much clumsier than with mittens, and it's just a mess. *grump* After a few days of trying to make do with the gloves, I went back to the store, and they told me there would be the right kind of mittens in Harvard Square, but they were mistaken.
Did you know that nitrile lab gloves under insulated gloves makes a noticable improvement in warmth? I'm not sure if great big nitrile lab gloves over insulated gloves are significantly better...they are so much harder to wrestle on.
