If this were a real emergency, a person would not use almost 2 gallons of the emergency water stash to rinse conditioner and bubble bath out of long hair. (It seemed like a reasonable idea at the time, to give my hair a very cursory wash without getting up, apply the goop, and go back to reading "The King of Attolia." It would have *been* reasonable, if the apartment had continued to get running water all evening.) As it was, I ended up climbing on a chair to reach the heavy jugs of water, so I could pour them over my head.

I expected last night's plumbing interruption to be short. That interruption lasted only a few hours, though there were several others today. I'm not sure why I expected it to be short...I didn't really have any basis to expect anything. It was late at night. I hadn't been following the news. If I suddenly had to deal with something that would interrupt normal operations for weeks or months, something like war or plague or natural disaster, I want to think I'd have the sense to let my hair stay dirty and save the clean water for drinking. But I didn't even think about it.
