I'm having trouble finding Chanuka candles. Here we are, halfway through the holiday, and I don't know whether it's ridiculous or seriously upsetting that I haven't been able to light a menora yet. The first night, I was out of town in the home of friends who aren't Jewish. The second night, I was travelling, interested only in getting home and getting warm.
Since then, I've been to 5 different supermarkets and 4 drugstores. I'm looking for ordinary Chanuka candles - about as thick as my little finger, twisted-looking, burn for about 20 minutes, 44 to a box. I can't find them. I'm not looking for gift wrap or music boxes with a Chanuka theme. I'm not looking for a fluorescent menora. Arlington/Somerville/Cambridge is a sufficiently multicultural area that I could find the latter. Or a yahrzeit candle, if I needed one.
Suggestions? Going out to Brookline and back on the T takes so long I really can't do it on a workday. And it's absurd! I'm not looking for something like shmura matzah, here, or even consecrated oil.
