This morning, I missed the first bus I tried to take. It was a near thing. On weekdays, the schedule lists when the bus leaves Alewife, and when it gets to Arlington Center ten minutes later. Today was the Sunday schedule, so they only listed times for leaving Alewife. There was no traffic, so the bus was at Arlington Center before I was. I could make only a minimal, token, attempt to run for it, but the driver wasn't stopping for me. I was lucky to find someplace warm to wait, because the next bus was not scheduled to come for 80 minutes.

When the bus did show up, most of the route was familiar, but there was a detour or shortcut or something towards the Burlington end. Then the bus stopped and let everyone out. I had been half-asleep and a little confused. I have no idea why we all had to get off and walk. I had to walk about 2 miles, and it was a minor inconvenience. But for some of the people who had expected the bus to drop them off across the street from the Lahey Clinic, it was more difficult to walk over a mile. Everyone made it, but some were pretty uncomfortable.

As I was trudging through the snow, I thought the toe of my right foot was getting wet. Then I thought I must be imagining it, because I was wearing my amazing new boots. It was my OLD boots that had a leak in the right toe. (And the boots before that.) But these boots are really, truly, waterproof. They couldn't possibly be leaking less than 3 weeks after I bought them! More likely I was feeling some kind of hysterical cold, wet, toes in the familiar place.

On my way home, the toe of my sock was wet enough to convince me the boot really is leaking. It's too bad the store where I bought it (The Tannery in Harvard Square) has such a limited return policy. I don't remember if it's 10 or 14 days, and exchanges only. I'll be shipping the boots to the manufacturer very soon. Now I'm grumpy to have so efficient at giving away my old boots that leaked or weren't warm enough.
