cliffs of insanity
Jul. 15th, 2006 11:40 amIn my world, 'I am not left handed' sounds like a joke. people might not get it, but they think it's a joke.
I am not left handed, really. I can do some things with my left hand, after a fashion. I can write, or rather print, drawing the letters like when I was 8. But only if the notebook is flat on the table -- not balanced on the edge by the phone. And I can print these 72 letters for english, plus numbers 9for arithmetic i need to change hands. It just doesnt work with left.) When my right hand first stopped working, years ago, i learned to write with the left. learned a signature. Not my signature, maybe, but a signature, and good enough printing to get by. But it can't draw. can't write greek letters either. Well, omicrn and some of the caps that look just like english, but there's a reason they're not used to label anything. rho, scribble, rho, scribble, backwards 9, scribble, until I change hands or write 'rho' or 'dens' so it will be recognizable. this week in lab notebook has been awful. also in lab. the micropipetter is supposed to work with either hand, but not with either of mine. my left is just too clumsy.
This week has been awful, generally. I hurt my hand monday night. Pulling off a bandaid is supposed to be a canonical example of minor unpleasantness, over quickly. This bandaid had very good adhesive, so my skin moved with it when I pulled it; I was trying to pull in shear. I think it pulled the skin hard enough to tear/dislodge scar tissue inside my right wrist. I felt SOMETHING tear. (my hand surgery was 2/22/99. improved range of motion but made pain worse and introduced new kinds of pain.) if surgical scar tissue stuck between nerves and tendons was causing some of the chronic pain, could it help to tear it? or is this only wishful thinking based on listening to _Curse of Chalion_ ? It's only been 4 days. Already, I can't cope. it hurts too much, even with meds. it's too limiting. I have no idea when it will start to get better. If.
