I seem to be a lot more sensitive to background noise than I once was. I can listen to something I concentrate on, but I have to work at it, and such work is tiring and distracting. I can't listen to background music anymore. The music is either foreground, or it's a strain for me to tune it out. This means I need good hearing protection in order to study or think clearly in a noisy environment (like this apartment. Especially this apartment in the afternoons when the high school marching band is practicing across the street.)

Earplugs that fit inside my ears are uncomfortable for me, so I'm looking for the earmuff style. I've used them around lab machinery to good effect, and now I want some for home. I know some are lighter than others, and weight is going to be important when I wear them for hours at a time. I want good overall noise reduction -- I do NOT want to attenuate some sounds and let others through. I would prefer silence and will settle for broad-spectrum quiet. I'd prefer low cost, but will pay what I have to for comfort (light weight and an adjustable band that won't pull hair.) I'm having trouble comparison shopping. Something like this looks like it would be great at 6.5 ounces http://www.labsafety.com/search/bilsom+earmuffs/12634/10437-2/?isredirect=true
but the Lab Safety Catalog doesn't list a price, and most other earmuffs don't list weight at all. Can someone point me to a better catalog? Or directly to a better pair of earmuffs?
