Ten months ago, I decided my old Thinkpad was just too broken to use anymore, and I needed to find a new computer. There were problems with not having convenient ports, but the thing that drove me crazy was not having a spacebar. Touch-typing relies on that convenient 3" bar across the bottom of the keypad, and so does a lot of webbrowsing. Using the wobbly 0.25" button instead was enough more difficult a lot of typing just becomes NotWorthIt. So, last March, I bought a new Vaio laptop, which served me well until last week.

It was a laptop that spent most of its time on this desk. In preparing for its first trip outside the apartment, I shut it down and turned it off. A few hours later, I had a moment of "Ooops! I need to check my flight online!" and tried to turn it back on, but it was impersonating a brick. It acted like the power button was not a power button at all. It is going back to the manufacturer for repair, which means being without it for 6 weeks or so. I'm relying on my old broken Thinkpad, and the library computers...and just spending a lot less time online.
