perspective
May. 10th, 2007 02:08 amI put my hair in 2 braids because I have trouble reaching the back of my neck with my left hand. This is not something I do as a fashion statement. I think it looks goofy enough that I'm uncomfortable about being seen in public this way...but it was 82 F today. My discomfort with having my hair on my neck and in my face while I walked overcame my discomfort with looking 100 years out of date (or maybe only 30. I'm not sure how much that helps.) I went to PT, and the therapist greeted me in the waiting room. As we went back into the clinic, she said:
"Cute braids."
I made self-deprecating, or at least braids-deprecating, excuses about it not being my usual style. It's an accomodation to the current state of my shoulder. The shoulder is getting better very slowly, and I am terribly cautious with it. She understands some of the changes I'm making (she really seems very understanding), but her hair is very short, and she might never have had long hair. She just liked the braids. I walked along the river on my way home, not fretting about being halfway in costume in the wrong place, but just enjoying the sunshine.
