Last Monday, a man died after his clothing caught in the long escalator at the Porter Square T station. It dragged him to the floor and strangled him. When someone at the top of the escalator saw he was in trouble and pushed the stop button, his sweatshirt had already been pulled too tight around his neck for amateur rescuers to free him. (There's no automatic sensor to stop that escalator.) The MBTA waited a week to release the story, because they believe it to have been an isolated incident. They're busy investigating the man who died. If they can prove he was drunk enough to stumble near the bottom of the escalator, what does that prove?

I take that long escalator every so often. I don't drink, but I'm often tired enough to stumble. Nothing to worry about. Move along.
