panic of the day
Aug. 11th, 2006 06:35 pmI'm at the airport. I'm really impressed by the effects of the current security panic. Not always positively impressed, but very impressed. There was something in this morning's Metro (the little paper they give away on public transit, to sell advertising with, or use as a fan) to the effect of passengers being searched twice "to make sure their carry-on bags did not contain liquids." I thought it was just bad writing. Surely they meant people were being searched to make sure they weren't carrying explosives or liquids. No. Just liquids.
I feel so safe, surrounded by people who decided to forgo soap, shampoo, sunscreen, toothpaste, insect repellent, and hand sanitizer, so they could fly. (I'm checking a bag.)
I made a mistake and brought medication without prescription labelling. When my bag was searched extensively at security, the guard paid particular attention to it, squeezing the package and reading the label. Then she gave it back to me, because it wasn't liquid. That would not have happened, last week, I don't think
