AKICOLJ -- potluck

I'm going to a potluck seder, and bringing vegetable appetizers for 28 people. The problem is that I have no idea how much food is appropriate. I'm more familiar with seders where people don't eat anything before the foods that are part of the ritual. (Or maybe if kids are ravenous, there are raisins after the first cup.) But these are friendly, gracious, people welcoming me to their seder, and their local custom is to eat carrot sticks and stuff*, before the seder starts, just like it was an ordinary party. Only with no grains or beans or dairy, and with some vague awareness that a really enormous meal is going to be served in a few hours. I have no problem with them asking me to bring the carrot sticks and stuff...I just feel like a clueless git in having no idea how much I should bring. I could go to a lot of trouble for this, making salsa, and guacamole, and olive dip, and mushroom pate. I'm looking for advice about quantities as well as variety. I need to go shopping, and right now I'm dithering so badly I can't even find order of magnitude.
