Jun. 21st, 2004 01:53 pmOne of my colleagues has a diagram of an ancient warship as the background picture on his computer. Some of you are familiar with this kind of ship - it's the ancient greek warship with 3 tiers of oars. A passer-by noticed the diagram and commented:
"Oh, I know what that is! It's a tureen."
"I think it's pronounced 'trireme.' You know, tri- for 3?"
From the other side of the aisle, "A tureen is what you put soup in."
"You don't put soup in this thing?"
"Nah. It would leak. See all those holes in the sides? That's a sushi boat."
