I remember seeing a clever idea on LJ some months back, about making a necklace of silicone tubing as a chew-toy to divert a squirrely child. I found non-toxic blue silicone tubing at a pet store, intended for aquarium use. It would be nice if I could make something more necklace-like, alternating blue sections with tubing of another color, or clear tubing to let the colored cords inside show through.

Do any of you work with vacuum tubing, or other silicone tubing? When I was doing lab work with pumps, we were always trimming off bits and pieces to make things fit, or to get a better seal. (We always had more of the trimmings than we had any use for. Now I wish I'd brought some home [and carried it through moving house several times], but I'm usually not that kind of silly.) Now I'm trying to find short sections of tubing, with reasonable confidence that it's not contaminated with anything vile. I don't want to buy a 50' roll direct from the supplier, when I only need 6-12". ID needs to be at least 3/16." If I can't find anything reasonable, I'll just do it all in blue, but I'm starting to think about how it could look if I could find the parts.
