dressing up

Why do all so many of the ways we humans have to dress up have to be so fragile? I was packing something nice to change into at Arisia (on the other side of being out in the cold), and thinking this would be a good occasion for decoration. And the outfit (either outfit in question, really) takes decoration beautifully. Unfortunately, *I* don't. If I wear earrings, one always falls off, or is rubbed off. I'm going to a party at a con in the middle of the winter...I don't want to be thinking about *earrings* when I hug a tall person wearing a loose-knit sweater (and it seems likely I will, during the next day or so.) It's also likely that I'll want to sit on floors, sprawl on beds, and generally be careless about dignity.
