not the kind of "balance" I really want

The object is NOT to injure all parts of the body equally.
I was walking to the bus stop, and slipped on an icy section of hillside. I did not fall on my face. More surprisingly, I did not fall on my right hand. The right hand hurts all the time, and this afternoon was moderately bad for it. Anyhow, I was carrying my right hand at my right hip, so it wouldn't swing and hurt more. When I lost my footing and started to fall to the right, I managed to twist around and land on my other side. Insofar as I broke my fall at all, I did it with my left hand. I didn't have my left hand stretched out to land on the palm. The whole side of my left forearm hit the ground at about the same time as my left hip. I landed on ice and broke through to a few inches of wet slush, so it was unpleasant, but I'm not hurt. It's very very slightly reassuring to think I wouldn't have landed on my head or right hand, even if that particular fall had been on concrete. But it's still not an experience I'd like to repeat.
Especially because my waterproof pants are not quite as waterproof as one might wish.
