new iPhone

I have a new iPhone. I hate it.
It's not that I loved my Android, but over the years we came to a cordial enough relationship. Friends with benefits. It didn't hurt me much. We slept together sometimes. I didn't drop it on the floor (well, hardly ever.) Then back in 2018, it started causing trouble with the agency that finds me some of my freelance gigs. I managed to work around that, but I recognized the red flag. I went shopping for another phone...but couldn't find another Android that was small enough to be comfortable in my hand, and then I got busy with other stuff. The last straw was the library. Both my libraries used to lend me ebooks through this lovely little app called Libby. For years, library ebooks and audiobooks had been pretty well inaccessible to me because I had no way to get through the DRM, but Libby made it transparent. When I say they "used to lend me ebooks," I mean they just upgraded the software to make it incompatible with the operating system my little old Android can handle.
Rather than live 2 weeks without library books on my phone, I bought a new phone. Wouldn't you?
So I have a shiny new iPhone SE, which seemed to be the smallest thing on the market. Does everybody actually want such big phones? Doesn't anyone put them in their pockets anymore? I don't want to play video games, and I resent that it takes a more and more powerful phone for me to get real time information about bus connections and when somebody is looking for a math tutor.
It's bit and heavy, which hurts my hand and shoulder, and makes it less portable. It fits in one hand, like my old phone...but it is enough wider that it strains my thumb just to hold it. And it's smoother, so I have to grip it harder so it doesn't slide out of my hand. It's an ounce heavier than my old one, which is more of a strain on my elbow. Some of the pockets in my clothing where I used to carry the old phone feel like I will need to reinforce the seams if I want to carry this phone. Or I will need to carry a purse, which means even MORE shoulder strain. A purse in my own apartment? To carry what used to fit in the pocket of my pjs?
I thought of maybe getting a case for it. That might solve some of the problems with grip, either by making it less smooth, or with a strap over the back of my hand so I wouldn't need to grasp around the thing so much. But that would make it heavier (at least a bit.) And it would make it substantially bulkier, so it wouldn't fit in the pockets of ANY of my clothing or even a small purse. I welcome other suggestions.
It's hard for me to read. I can't get the lettering to look clear. I finally figured out how to get a BIG font, big enough that I can make things out, but big is different from crisp. It still looks...fuzzy. Like a dot-matrix printer that's starting to run low on ink. Are they all like that? Is this a problem with the settings? Did I get a dud? I hesitate to call the service line and talk to a zednik who's never seen a dot-matrix printer. I can't tell if the headaches are just eyestrain, or if the screen is flickering very slightly and triggering migraines. (I am extraordinarily sensitive to that.) As above, I welcome suggestions.
Even though it's 3 kinds of physically painful, I'm afraid I'm stuck with it. Apple would probably be willing to take it back, because I only got it yesterday. The problem is that any other machine capable of running the apps I want would be even heavier. I would be happier about trying to work with the damn thing if it would do what I wanted in other ways. I have a lot of epub and mp3 files on my Android, and I can't figure out how to transfer them to the iPhone. Is this even possible?

I gather from some people that the pop-up holders on the back don't take up a ton of space when compressed and can help with the size.
